I watched it on New Year's Eve.

I liked it. The action is good and the Joker makes a frightening villain. On the other hand, it feels less like a cohesive movie and more like several unrelated scenarios strung together very loosely. The scenarios themselves are interesting - I really enjoyed the tense situations with the two ferries - but the way we arrive at them requires so much suspension of disbelief that it's hard to take the movie as a whole seriously. There's a lot of coincidence in that movie, but I guess for the bank robbery scene, you're supposed to be impressed by how well planned like clockwork it was. (Also, what were the odds that the bus would be able to get into that tight traffic so easily at the end of it?)

The problem with the robbery scene is that his entire plan hinges on that guy driving the truck into the bank at that very moment. Otherwise, he would've been killed by his own guy, and it would've been his own fault.

I doubt that any fan's opinion of the movie hinges on the courtroom scene, but my guess is that if you didn't like the opening bank robbery scene, the movie is probably not for you.

Yeah, that's pretty much what happens in the court. The movie gets better, for what it's worth.

I just watched this for the first time tonight. First movie I've enjoyed this much in a while. The voice in the back of my head went "Patriot Act" after that particular scene FO mentioned was over, but I brushed it aside because I was so engrossed at that point. I had forgotten about this post when I watched it, otherwise it may have bothered me more.

I might not have it exactly right, but I think the witness pulls a gun and the DA somehow disarms the guy and calmly continues on while everyone in the courtroom applauds.

I tried watching this over the holiday, but I gave up after about 20 minutes. I guess I'm not being totally fair, but after the mediocre robbery scene in the opening, the horrendous and almost comical "batman voice", and the ridiculous even for a superhero movie courtroom scene, I just had to turn it off.

That bothered me, too. Everything about that was rushed and not planned well - even the way they revealed her being the Phantasm. She takes off the disguise like GOB took off his stripper pants.

I guess they had to make her inexplicably weak at the end so she wouldn't just kill the Joker, who needed to return as a major character, and so that as a woman she could be saved by Batman.

Another thing about Mask of the Phantasm that bothered me (and this was strange coming from something based on the Batman Animated Series because I don't recall anything in the series being manipulative in this way) is the way the Phantasm seems supernatural at first, but steadily becomes more of a normal human by the end. At first, it floats instead of walks; bullets go right through it; a spear is tossed at it and it phases out and reappears so that the spear goes right through it. None...

I saw Mask of the Phantasm on TV years ago. It left no impression on me then, and it had the same effect on a replay. I also remember thinking that it didn't make much sense that this supposed rich guy didn't have any money. It also makes him less sympathetic when you consider that he did take their money and embezzle it, especially since we don't ever get to know anything about him as a character so it's not like I cared what happened to him.

I saw it and thought it was great, better then Begins, IMO, but, I felt the had similarities to Spider man three, mainly with the villains that appeared.

Heath Ledger is so far the best yet, movie wise that, yeah not much to go on with just two film appearances. I don't anyone will beat that role in another possible 20 or so years, when the Joker comes back.

I'm glad there was no Gimmick Weapon this time like that thing that made all the water evaporate in Batman Begins. I was a little disappointed that we didn't get to see more of Cillian Murphy and his role basically amounted to a "Count Dooku in Star Wars Episode III" at the beginning, but ah well. Everything else was great and it's a shame Heath Ledger can't be back to reprise his role. (I wonder what villains the next movie will have...)

I just saw the ending to Batman Forever on Youtube (my sister took me to see it in theaters when it was new), and, wow, I forgot how bad it was. I figured The Dark Knight was better, but I was surprised by how much; my basis for comparison had faded.

I remember seeing Mask of the Phantasm after it went to home video and thinking that it wasn't even as good as a typical episode of the show. It felt more like a pilot episode what with all the explanations for Batman's origin than a movie.

FO and I saw Mask of the Phantasm last night. It wasn't very good.

It was a movie that was originally supposed to go direct to video, but ended up getting a theatrical release first. It didn't seem like it had a big enough scope to be a movie. The animation was TV quality. It could have just been a TV episode.

To fill out enough time to make it a movie, they had flash backs to Batman's origin story -- AGAIN. They do not need to keep telling this story over...

I thought it was okay. I might have liked it a little more than Batman Begins (though it hasn't completely sunk in yet). It's well-acted. The main problem I had with it is that it's a little too long. My mind started to phase out a few times from thinking that it was just going on too long. Some other points of observation:
