But seriously, I think that's too much like the argument that if you buy an Xbox 360, you should (and can easily afford) to buy an HDTV with it. If the developers don't make the text readable on a SDTV, it's just because you were too stupid to buy a good TV.

If you don't like DVD menus, it's because you were stupid and didn't buy a really expensive player.

I have a Panasonic player from a couple years back and an almost new RCA one. I have an Xbox...

Yes, dipshit, on my Magnavox player, there is an option that when you stick a disc in, it bypasses the menu and just plays the movie. So stop being a dipshit, buy a better DVD player, and press the SETUP button.

If you can only manage the latter two I COMPLETELY understand.

And how does that feature work on your magic DVD player? Do you have to actually keep pressing the skip button? Because I'm talking about something more hands off than that where you press power, put the disc in, and the first scene of the movie plays.

I don't know what kind of crap APEX player you're using, but most decent players have this option. I think even the SlimStyle PS2 has this option, but I'll never know because I don't enable it because SURPRISE SURPRISE I LIKE-AH...

The worst DVD menu I remember was either Transformers Season 3 or 4 where Rodimus Prime walks through a door and slowly limps over to a console, and I don't think you could skip it.

I love movie commercials.
It's like a time warp.
I can watch a whole two hour film and all its best .... in a three minute commercial.

There should be regulations on DVD Menus. If the producer cannot figure out how to play the movie, *fail*.

The new HD DVDs most of the time have much better menus. I can even play the movie and look at the menu at the same time. Minty.

That was even worse with VHS movies. Sometimes, they'd have some feature before the movie, like the making of Jaws, or something, and it'll show Robert Shaw's character get eaten by a shark. I think when FO and I rented that movie, we had already both seen it, and, yeah, the movie is 30 years old, but there must be some people who would rent the movie to see it for the first time.

I hate the DVD menus that give away the movie's story or key plot points. I mean, there ARE people who haven't seen the movie who are renting and seeing it for the first time. It's the in medias res thing, only now it's like a Cliff's Notes version.

Yes.

But some DVDs are good. Like, I think if you put The Godfather in, it just plays the movie. It doesn't even take you to a menu first. I might have a few other DVDs like that, but that's the main one that comes to mind.

Disclaimers and FBI warnings should be at the end of the movie.
