But the premise interests me. I might personally include

Level 8-2 (Super Mario Bros.)

Level 8-2 (Super Mario Bros. 2 JP)

Mondo (Super Mario World) - I want to fit in one of the Special World stages, but I'm having trouble deciding which is the best.

Zozo (Final Fantasy VI)

Animal Antics (Donkey Kong Country 2)

Donut Plains 3 (Super Mario Kart)

Besides that, it's hard for me to narrow down particular levels when so many things from the oldschool Zelda and Mario games are great.

I used to think Outrageous (the forest stage) might have been close (assuming you don't just fly over it -- which probably disqualifies it), but this time,

Battletoads has a lot of memorable levels, but I'll go with the Speeder Bikes (level 3) and the Snakes (I think Level 6). I also like the Elevator stage.

The Whale dungeon is one of the most memorable in Alundra 2. The hatch puzzle is one of the toughest in the game, and there are a lot of other parts that are
difficult, especially if played on the harder setting....
