I wonder how they determined if a game was underrated or not. Some of those entries just mention that no one talks about the games, but for a lot of those it's pretty easy to stumble across positive remarks in casual conversations. Nintendo Power once did a feature a long, long time ago on the "Unsung Heroes of the NES" and I was actually quite surprised by the some of the entries on the list, such as Blaster Master and Shadowgate, which I thought were really popular. I think another issue with people liking ZAMN is that they like playing it multiplayer, but eh, I can think of better games for that, like Goldeneye, Mario Kart, and Contra 3.

This makes about as much sense as piloting a fighter jet but instead of using the jet's rockets and guns, you hang out the cockpit window while shooting a .44.

Thank goodness they fixed this in Panzer Dragoon Saga (you still have the gun, but the dragon has attacks, too.)

Actually they fixed that in Panzer Dragoon 2: Zwei, but I'm being facetious.

In the case of Panzer Dragoon, my belief is that it's a combination of

one or more of these factors:

1. It's an "underdog" game.

2. It has "features" such as lock-on targeting and an automatic camera that swivels around to show things from different angles as you're flying along. Things like this are usually seen as "improvements", no matter if they really benefit the gameplay or not.

Yeah, but I never said that or would have agreed with it. Hypotheticals aside, I probably did actually vocalize that Mario Kart 64 was slower.

I've heard that the DKC games look horrendous on a high definition tv compared to other games from that era. On a regular set, and on a PC monitor, I think they hold up very, very well.

Mario Kart 64 is waaay slower than Super Mario Kart....I don't see how anybody could deny it. Maybe they used Koopa in 50cc or something. But even that's just as fast as most of Diddy Kong Racing or Crash Bandicoot Racing, to name a few names. And certainly faster than Mario Kart 64.

Herzog Zwei - Again, not the most-played game in the world, but the reason I bought it (and paid a little more than I do for the average Genesis game for it), is because I kept hearing it was "OMG! Best Genesis game ever!"

Maybe I'm just not hanging around in Sega Genesis gaming circles enough anymore, but Herzog Zwei seems to have fallen under the radar lately. Back when it was talked-about I used to think it was...

For a game to be underrated, it needs to be received negatively, not just overlooked.

Well, I don't know. If something "deserves" a 9.9/10, and gets a 9.8/10, then it is technically underrated, though obviously not one of the most underrated games of all time.

I think the problems with being received negatively being a criteria are

-The Rotten Tomatoes problem. Almost everything is rated as positive, unless it is almost...
