One thing I do get annoyed with are people who cry out "FURRY!" at the first sight of an animal in a cartoon. My response to them is, "Deal with it!" Cartoons have talking animals. It's the way it's always been. Don't watch cartoons if you don't like it.

I once saw someone in YouTube comments call a cartoon "furry" just because it had a scene with horses. They weren't even anthropomorphic.

I do not profess to be any great artist, but here's my own rendition of an anthropomorphic pangolin. Looking dapper in his top-hat and trenchcoat. Is it really any better than that other example? Well, he has to win points for fashion sense, at least!

One of the problems with criticizing these webcomics though, is that it's really a moot point. The reason they're bad like they are is because they're patronizing particular fetishes. They aren't interested in being good, only in the fetish.

But as far as giving good examples of anthropomorphic cartoon animals that do not give off creepy fetish vibes:

I think we need a more concrete definition of what a "furry" is. But the problem is, those who claim to be furries themselves can't seem to even agree. That's why it's evolved into such a general insult on the internet. There's the definition given in that thread (about finding art of anthropomorphic animals attractive), but then there's people who will say that they're furries, and that it's nothing sexual. Well, in good cartooning, the point is to take the basic features and exaggerate them. A good cartoon pangolin, for example, would keep the long nose. But those are all basically the same character with different ears, tails, and coloring.

I'm a bit confused of the definition of "furry" in this case. I always thought it could apply to any anthropomorphic animal, but I suppose here you're referring to the ones that have an anime vibe or are particularly...

I'm not saying it's "bad advice", but it's strange to see how fucking clueless people on the internet really are. And it makes them look like hypocrites to criticize other comics for using basic face templates and "animu" art styles when those drawings they purport to be "good examples" do the same thing.

Another thing is that, although I won't argue that many of the comics they cover on these types of blogs really are bad and deserve...

Well, even if he doesn't follow his own advice, it's not bad advice.

The sad thing is that that advice has to be given at all. Stuff like, "Most people don't want to see drawings of your furry fetish" should go without saying.

There's the old joke about a movie that impresses you so much you almost like it. Well, I like xkcd; it needn't blow me away with intricate drawing because his writing is smart and his art gets the point across. Leave the detail to somebody who wants to pack a more visual punch.

That's not even a joke. As bad and juvenile as the punchline is, the setup is completely forced, because Ash shouldn't want to repel Pokemon when he's trying to catch them.

This has already been referred to a couple of times elsewhere on the board, but it could have its own topic.

It's a blog that finds bad webcomics, and explains why they are bad.

And holy crap are they bad. He covered the well-known CTRL ALT DEL and VGCats, but I don't even know how he managed to find some shit that's as bad as he's found.
