funny, i bought psiv for $80 when it came out and didn't regret it for a second.

most of my regrets are over not buying certain games when i had the chance. that or selling a game before the price on it went thru the roof.

the most recent thing like that i didn't even have the cash for at the time so i can't regret not getting it too badly. (smt nocturne & digital devil saga).

We have a Sega CD -- actually, a CDX.

Had I purchased a Sega CD brand new for its full retail price, I probably would have regretted it. Otherwise, though, what's the big deal?

Yeah, I have a Sega CD... hell, I have a Jaguar CD even amongst somewhere around 30 systems. I don't regret getting the Sega CD, because even though Lunar 2 wasn't as good on it, the first Lunar I really liked on Sega CD, Popful Mail's a riot, Robo Aleste and Android Assault turned out to be great shooters, and Sonic CD was probably my favorite of the 2D Sonic games. For me there wasn't really a decision to be made between Atari 2600 and the NES, since my parents already owned an Atari for years by the time the NES came out, so it was more of a separate generation thing to me. I've accrued a large group of Genesis games over the years, but the only ones I'd dare hold up for quality against SNES games are shooters (mainly MUSHA, Grind Stormer, Phelios, and Gaiares) and action games (most notably Contra: Hard Corps, Castlevania Bloodlines, and...

I too picked the Super NES at the time. I don't think it was a decision of quite the magnitude of Atari vs NES, though. I might have been happy with the Genesis ... assuming, that is, that I could find games for it that I liked. I'm not a huge fan of the Sonic games. I didn't like Phantasy Star 4 (nor 1). I did like games like Contra Hard Corps, Gaiares, and Thunder Force II, but would I have known about those games at the time? It seems like Contra Hard Corps should have...

Ouch, yeah, I got bit on Quest 64 new as well. That took all of 8 hours to finish (and dull ones at that).

Fortunately for me, I was up on most of the Saturn stuff at the time, so I got most of those games (Panzer Dragoon Saga, Dragon Force, Shining Wisdom, RayEarth, Burning Rangers, Shining Force III) all pretty cheap... I don't think I paid more than $30 for any of them.

This seems like a good question, but I can't think, off the top of my head, of any huge regrets, regarding game purchases, that I have.

Radiant Silvergun may not have been worth what I paid for it, but I still don't have much regret in buying it. The most I can regret is that I could have bought it when it was new -- the only reason I didn't was because I didn't yet have a Saturn, and wasn't sure when I could get one, and further wasn't sure of what to do...

I have a hard time remembering what I paid for most of my games and I think a lot of my collection was gotten at discount and bargain prices.

The only thing that readily springs to mind is Turok: Dinosaur Hunter for the N64. I believe I bought that new for some inscrutable reason (though I don't remember the exact price I paid - maybe somewhere around $50) and I didn't like what I played of it at all.

That was the first sign I got that the hype for N64 games...

There been too many cases of me paying full price for a game only to never play it until long after a price cut for me to list.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, there's been a number of Saturn games I regret not getting before their prices inflated, like Shining Wisdom, Dragon Force, and Magic Knight Rayearth. I guess when Working Designs went out of business it increased demands for their stuff, although it seemed like Dragon Force inflated long before...

I was looking over the old topics and saw the "It's worth..." topic, and started thinking about games I've overpaid for given the amount of entertainment I've gotten out of them. My biggest regrettable impulses:

Radiant Silvergun (Saturn) - not worth the $150 I spent by any means. It's fun, but terribly overrated and overpriced.

Lunar 2 (Sega CD) - again, it's okay, but the $60 I paid for it was as much as I paid for the superior Playstation...
