I don't think Rowling handled some of the things in the last book as well as she could have. Like Crawl said, the semantics with the Elder's Wand that eventually acted as the Deus Ex Machina in the final confrontation came out of nowhere. There were other things that just showed up without any mention in the last six books, like the Resurrection Stone, and the Fiendfyre spell that ultimately destroyed one of the horcruxes (which you'd think might be important.) The events...

What most people complain about in Return of the Jedi is the Ewoks. Too many people get hung up on that, and then they forget how great the rest of the film was.

Back to Harry Potter, one of the worst parts of the book is when they go to Godric's Hollow. You'd think it would be the pay-off of all the tedious trekking through the woods, and there had been hints...

I don't think the stories ever came across as all that original. Most of them were basically Scooby Doo rip-offs.

When I was a really little kid, I would always try to solve the Scooby Doo mysteries based on who had the most motivation. I was never right. When I was a little older (like maybe when Cartoon Network was a little newer), I realized that the criminal was always the person who showed up early in the story for one scene and then you never saw them again.

Somehow, I don't think Rowling was able to "cover up" the things she "borrowed" in the last book. In the other books, if she had taken elements from other stories, they at least had a new spin on them, or integrated them into the plot better. But, in the last book, there's things like Hermione's magical bag, that I can't help but think, "hey, they stole that from Mary Poppins and/or Felix the Cat!"

I can't believe how easy I was on this book. There's almost no cause and effect -- characters hold a cursed cup with no adverse effect, characters in random dispersed parts of the world have plot-relevant encounters purely by chance, an item that's important to the story is destroyed by a method that comes completely out of the blue, half the story is just kids wandering around in the woods, the climax comes down to obscure rules...

This book will be TWO movies

Sadly, I can't add anything creative. EVERYONE on the internet seems to think this is a stupid idea, when you consider that half of the book is just the gang roaming aimlessly in the woods, and the whole story could maybe make an hour movie if all the crap was cut.

Stephen King writes about the ending of the series.

He makes a few good points. Indeed, the books do mature a bit, and Rowling's writing improved, over the course of the series. However, I don't think it was a series of continuous improvement. I don't think book 7 evolved much past book 6, for instance.

By the way, this is another "leaked" Harry Potter 7. It was on the web at least 9 days before the book's release. It appears as though someone actually wrote a 700-page fanfic version of what they thought Deathly Hallows would be like. It's also possible (maybe?) that it was an "official" fake, made to discredit any...
