I was already aware of the 40 GB PS3's lack of PS2 backwards compatibility, CB007, but thank you for your advice, nonetheless.

Actually, when I said that the range of $250-300 is what I would pay for a video game system, that's more hypothetical. I, personally, have never paid more than $50 for a video game system, and that was for my Gameboy Color! Outside of that, the most I've paid is, if I am correct, $30! Most of the systems that I own I got after their retail-life...

I think the most I have ever paid for a videogame system was $200 for the Super NES when it was new. But I don't remember what I paid for the Turbo Duo, so I might be wrong.

For other systems, I paid $100 for my NES, $130 for my first Playstation, and less than $100 for my N64. None were used. (The N64, though, was purchased after they were no longer manufactured) That's more in line with what I'd expect to pay for a game system. But I don't think I'd buy a...

I have only the slightest interest in FF13 right now and I've never been a MGS fan. I'm sure it'll have some excellent games, but I've been losing interest in games in general lately. On top of that, I just took a pretty big financial hit from something I can't really discuss now.

I think if I scale back and focus on just one or two systems I'd be better off. In a way, I think it would be better if I sold everything but the Wii and DS but being totally cut...

What? you mean you're not going to wait for Metal Gear Solid 4 and/or Final Fantasy XIII?

I would probably say no. It's a possibility, but I'd definately want to spend much time thinking it over, first. It's only been recently that I've been even considering getting one, so if I did buy it now, it would be an impulse buy, (and quite a high-priced one, at that!) I don't suppose anyone here would want to buy my PS3 for real, huh? I could use the money.
It's got the backwards compatibility going for it, 60GB hard drive, wireless controller, all cables, original box, perfect condition.

Tretton told the paper that taking support for PS2 games out of the new system isn't dramatically cutting manufacturing costs. However, by omitting the option of playing PS2 games, Sony hopes that new customers will instead spend their money on more PS3 games.

Ah, when you used the phrase "cheaper one" I thought you were talking about it being cheaper for Sony to manufacture. And my incorrect assumption was that the 80GB model would be available for $499. What they're doing then, is just replacing the $499 30GB model with the 60GB and adding the 80GB to replace the $599 60GB as the upper-tier version of the console. And free Motorstorm, which is no big deal.

You're right, it would seem to be good news for those concerned...

I think you've got that reversed. They started with the chip, which was too expensive, so now they're going to flawed emulation. I probably could've explained it a little more coherently before.

The 60GB PS3 will now be $499. An 80GB version is on the way for the same price. However, the 80GB version will be using emulation for PS2 games rather than the PS2 chip, meaning that it's ability to run the entire library of games will be crippled, just like the 360.
