In a fit of rage at my bulbs always dying at the worst possible moment, and seemingly constantly, I replaced every one in the house with the compact flourescent type.

They're supposed to have a 7 year life, and when they do get ready to go, they won't immediately fail.

And aside from a slight delay in reaching maximum brightness, I notice no other changes in the brightness or other attributes of the light.

Since I haven't had any trouble with the other bulbs yet, my theory is that being in the bathroom is what caused it to die early. Maybe the moisture from
showers shortened it's life a good deal, plus the fact that you're switching a bathroom light on and off a lot more often than other rooms.

I don't get headaches from the bulbs or even notice any difference from normal bulbs. Their slow startup is damned annoying sometimes, though. We've
got a regular...

never seen one of those before. i've always used those circular-shaped fluorescent lights. i can't imagine why anyone would use ol' traditional light bulbs any more. they're f%ckin' hot. they feel like zombie lights, sucking the life out of me.
EDIT: just realised that fluorescent lights contain mecury.ack. according to wiki and some australian news website. LED lights are being considered as another alternative for replacing traditional light bulbs because of that. i've never seen...

I've been using these, too. Another advantage is they're much cooler. I have a ceiling fan which would make this burning plastic smell after having it on for 15 minutes. Put those in it, and I can leave it on for hours with no smell.

Only real problem with them is that they don't work in lights with dimmers. The price should take care of itself.
