I haven't head one in a newer song in the past 10 years or so! They just aren't in songs anymore. What happened? Now all there is to hear is stupid, whiney vocals, with maybe the same 2 chords in the background, repeated over and over. Are there just no guitarists these days that can actually play guitar?

I'm just musing here. I don't really know.

Anyway, when I first heard about modes, it sounded stupid. What a great concept. All they are are scales with the same key signature but starting on different notes. If you know the whole scale, you can start on any note, so what's the point?

When I put the Nimbus Land music from Super Mario RPG on my site, I'm calling it "Nimbus Land", not "Let's Do the Fooka-Fooka!"

The Barrel Volcano music is called "Barrel Volcano", so why isn't the Nimbus Land music just called "Nimbus Land"? Maybe they should have called the Barrel Volcano music,...

I'm gonna start out by saying the first rock song ever cannot be "Rock Around the Clock" OR anything by Elvis, because music like that should more properly be called "Sock Hop". It might have been considered "rock and roll" at the time, it might be a legitimate predecessor to the rock music of today, but it itself is not rock music. What defines rock music?

Rock music has to rock.

So, I'd say "Purple Haze" qualifies as rock...

Song: Feelin' Stronger Everyday (by Chicago)
Advertising: Cars (Saturn, I believe)
Why it's inappropriate in a commercial: The reason the singer is "feelin' stronger everyday" is because he dumped a girlfriend he thought was a drag on him. (Looking over the lyrics again, this might be ambiguous, but it's definitely about a breakup)

New U2 Album

Just because I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else here, I thought I'd write a review of the not-so-new U2 album that was released awhile back.

Bono is too old. His (already of dubious quality) singing voice is failing him in old age. It's kind of sad, really.

Only one of the songs is really very good, but it's still not great. "Magnificent" is pretty much the best track on the album.

Casette/Tape Decks

Not sure if this topic is out of place here...

Anyway, I've been looking for a while and I can't find any cars that come standard with a tape deck (or even as an optional add-on). I'm sure I could find one on eBay or somewhere else on the Internet that I could install, but buying a car that came with one would obviously be cheaper. Have tape decks been discontinued?
